The Star Trek Tucson Fan Club is here for their monthly meeting. Tonight we give tribute and praise for the actress, singer, dancer, and now Legend: Nichelle Nichols. Nichelle was best known as Lt. Nyota Ahura from Star Trek and it’s many manifestations. She was one of the first African Americans to portray a non-stereotypical role on television. From 1977-2015, Nichelle was a supervisor of NASA”s recruitment drive for women and BIPOC people to become astronauts. Asteroid 68410 Nichols was named in her honor. Nichelle’s name meant Victorious Maiden. Nyota means Star and Uhuru means Freedom. Adam Nimoy stated, “The importance of Nichelle’s legacy cannot be over-emphasized.’ She will always be a great character, played by a wonderful person, but who will always be Family to us. Our good friends from The Curry Pot will be at their usual Thursday night home (right here!) serving their amazing curries! It all starts at 6PM.
